Woodbury Weekly Update: Main Event Opening Next Month

This week in Woodbury, residents are preparing for a major new entertainment destination while road construction continues across the city. The filing period for City Council candidates opens this Tuesday, and a local high school graduate recently earned a prestigious national scholarship. Main Event Entertainment Center to Open August 3

Woodbury is about to gain a major new entertainment destination. Main Event, the family entertainment chain owned by Dave & Buster’s Entertainment Inc., will open its first Minnesota location on Monday, August 3, at 540 Bielenberg Drive in Tamarack Hills. The 48,000-square-foot entertainment complex will feature state-of-the-art bowling, an arcade with more than 100 games, laser tag, virtual reality experiences, and a full-service restaurant. The venue specializes in hosting parties for birthdays, corporate events, anniversaries, and other milestones. General Manager Michael Frisby stated that establishing the company’s first footprint in Minnesota in Woodbury is a huge milestone. The location sits near Topgolf’s second Minnesota complex, which opened in late October near the intersection of I-94 and I-494/694. Main Event is currently hiring for front- and back-of-house positions, including servers, bartenders, hosts, line cooks, and attendants.

City Council Filing Period Opens July 14

Residents interested in serving on the Woodbury City Council can begin filing their candidacy this Tuesday. Filing will be available from Tuesday, July 14, through Tuesday, July 28, at 5 p.m. at Woodbury City Hall during regular business hours. A non-refundable filing fee of $40 is required at the time of filing. Candidates wishing to withdraw their candidacy must do so no later than Thursday, July 30, at 5 p.m., by filing an affidavit of withdrawal in person at City Hall. Road Construction Continues Across the City

Woodbury drivers should continue to expect delays as multiple construction projects progress throughout the summer. Construction of the roundabout at Bailey Road and Settlers Ridge Parkway is expected to continue through mid- to late July, with the road closure remaining in place. An extension of the closure of westbound Valley Creek Road began Monday, July 6. The 2026 Road Rehabilitation Project includes pavement replacement and utility repairs along Afton Road between Tower Drive and Radio Drive, as well as in the Boulder Ridge neighborhood. A new trail will be constructed on the north side of Afton Road between Timberlea Drive and Radio Drive. Woodbury High School Graduate Earns Dell Scholarship

Zuhra Bashir, a 2026 graduate of Woodbury High School, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Dell Scholarship. Bashir will receive $20,000, a new laptop, $500 for textbooks, and mentoring guidance as she heads to college this fall. She credits Woodbury High School’s Advancement Via Individual Determination program and her AVID teacher, Julie Onken, with helping her earn the scholarship. Bashir enrolled in full-time Post-Secondary Enrollment Options at Century College during her junior and senior years with the goal of earning her associate degree before graduating from high school. She will major in kinesiology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and hopes to pursue a career in the health care field.
